Is Today a Busy Day? Today’s Range Against the Usual

Written by Frano Grgić · Updated 6 November 2026 · Data: Currenlyzer live price feed · Statistics, not advice
The short answer

The table lists the symbols whose current hour is the busiest compared with their own usual range for this hour. It updates every few minutes.

A busy day is only busy against the same symbol’s usual day. The scanner compares the range of the current hour with the average of the same hour over the last 30 days. This page shows the top of that list.

179 symbols are open right now and 23 of them are in a busy hour, meaning the current hour moves 30% or more above its usual range. Reading above 1.0 means busier than usual for this hour; below 1.0 quieter.

How to read the live numbers

The reading Busy, Normal or Quiet compares the range of the current hour so far with the usual range for that hour, scaled for the minutes that have passed. It uses the last 30 days, the same as the scanner, and it is refreshed every few minutes. A reading of Busy for an hour does not mean the day is busy; it means the last minutes were.

What to check next

When a symbol is Busy, the first thing to check is the economic calendar for a release or an announcement, because scheduled news is the most common cause. The second is whether the move is only in this symbol or in all symbols of the same currency; the currency strength tool shows that.

How to check this in Currenlyzer

  1. Open the scanner. It lists every symbol with its reading for the current hour: Busy, Normal or Quiet.
  2. Sort by the busiest now or by the usual range, and filter by currency.
  3. Click a symbol to open its analyzer, where the hours of every weekday and the number of days counted are shown.

How we count

The numbers come from the live price feed of Currenlyzer: one-minute prices are built into hourly and daily candles, all in UTC. The range of a candle is its high minus its low. We use finished candles only, and we leave out hours when the market is closed and days that are too thin to count (the first hours of the Sunday open, short holiday days), so a closed hour is never averaged in as zero. Averages cover the last 30 days for the daily range and the last 60 days for hours, unless the text says otherwise. Pips follow the dashboard: one pip is 0.0001 on most pairs, 0.01 on yen pairs and 0.10 on gold. The same method is used in the dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

How do you decide a symbol is busy?

When the current hour’s range is 30% or more above the usual range for the same hour, measured over the last 30 days.

How often does it update?

Every few minutes, from the live price feed.

Is busy good or bad?

Neither. It says the price is moving more than usual, with more opportunity and more risk.
